Posture vs. Healthy Feet
“Everything starts from the base” is a mantra that can be seen frequently. This phrase says a lot about life, including the pains of our body.
In a building, the foundations support apartments, shopping malls, movie theaters, and many other examples. In education, a basic education provides young people with the fundamental knowledge they need for more complex professions. In the human body, the feet keep us grounded and distribute our weight evenly.
There is a little-explored relationship between feet and our posture. It turns out that, depending on your step, you make parts of your body uneven, such as your shoulders, pelvis, knees and ankles. In this way, the asymmetry of your feet changes the entire dynamics of the regions of your torso or head. Sometimes, even both regions at the same time.
As a result, pain in the head, hips, knees, ankles, spine and feet becomes more frequent. All of this happens because the feet, the foundation of the entire body, become weak.
The feet are designed to keep the body firmly on the ground, using as little muscle energy as possible. With this unique design, our base adapts to the uneven terrain, absorbs impact and propels the body to walk, run and jump when necessary.
Any foot is capable of this, as long as it is healthy, that is, in balance with the body.
Imbalance arises and becomes a problem when there is interference in the natural functions of our base, affecting posture and generating asymmetry in the regions of the body. A conventional tennis shoe, for example, can have so many superficialities — shock absorbers, toe boxes, thick soles, etc. — that they change the natural shape of the feet.
This makes them weak and uneven, and directly affects posture.
Fortunately, it is possible to correct your posture through foot adaptability. To do this, you must understand the cause of the changes in your gait and adopt a routine that allows your feet to feel free, with barefoot shoes and recovery exercises.
After this, the body's symmetry and good posture are restored thanks to the natural function of the feet!
