Safe transition to barefoot running

Since we were little, we have been conditioned to squeeze our toes, cushion our heels and limit our feet. Until the change finally happens with barefoot sneakers, all this conditioning has been going on for many years and even decades. Therefore, our foundation begins to consider that this is the way to walk and run.

At the same time, there has been an increase in the number of people interested in running barefoot or with minimalist shoes. Unlike what happened years ago, it is not difficult to find opinions and comments that are favorable to running barefoot or with minimalist shoes. However, at the same time, there has also been an increase in reports of injuries and more persistent pain due to the body's lack of adaptation.

It turns out that barefoot running requires strong feet. If you have spent a long time conditioning and weakening your feet with conventional sneakers, the transition requires your attention before starting to run barefoot. First of all, it is worth highlighting the role of progression. Any abrupt change causes wear and tear, and in the case of running, there is no difference.

If you run frequently and wear cushioned shoes, for example, the lack of this artificial cooling creates a shock to the body. Therefore, start gradually, keeping in mind the adaptation of the intrinsic muscles of the feet. To do this, do exercises focused on the mobility of the ankle and plantar fascia.

Another point that deserves attention is beyond running. For a good transition, basic strength and mobility exercises focusing on the feet and ankles are very welcome. This way, you use the entire sole of the foot and the big toe, improving balance.

Finally, another valuable tip for transitioning to barefoot running is to wear minimalist sneakers not only when running, but every day.

This allows the body to adapt more quickly and the months until it reaches its potential pass more quickly! This entire period takes several months and, if it is not respected, temporary shock is more likely to occur. This leads to pain and injuries.

If you have any doubts, it is worth looking for a physical trainer to help you.
